Procedure of Application for Classes
Check required credits for program completion → Search the Class Schedule/Syllabus → Apply for Classes → Obtain confirmation from the academic advisor → Completion
a. Check Required Credits for Program Completion
Before registering for classes, students must confirm the major and research credits required by their department and review credits already earned and courses planned for the semester.
This advance review is intended to prevent problems with program completion or graduation.
Portal Login → (New) Academic Affairs Information → Grade/Graduation → View Graduation Requirements Acquisition Status (General Graduate School)
b. Search the Class Schedule/Syllabus
Portal Login → (New) Academic Affairs Information → Academic Course → View Course Schedule/Syllabus
Portal without login: Course Schedule/Syllabus Search
c. Application for Classes
Portal Login → (New) Academic Affairs Information → Academic Course → Application for Classes → Check Department and Major → Click “Apply” for the desired courses → Check the “Application for Classes List” at the top.
Please verify the minimum major and research credit requirements established by your department.
d. Confirmation of Academic Advisor
Students must obtain approval for their registered courses from their academic advisor through AIMS. If an academic advisor has not yet been assigned, approval must be obtained from the department chair or dean.
Application Criteria and Procedure
Maximum Credits per Semester
12 credits, including research credits. Credits and grades exceeding this limit will not be recognized and will be removed from the academic record.
Application for Research Credits
- Students admitted before 2014: 3 research credits per semester for each degree program.
- Students admitted in or after 2014 - Master's: normally 3 research credits per semester. Students in departments requiring 9 total research credits may register for up to 6 credits per semester.
- Doctoral and Integrated programs: 3 or 6 research credits per semester.
- Students who have not completed required research credits may complete coursework (ABD) when all major-credit and minimum-study-period requirements are met, but may not graduate.
- Students registering only for research credits after the minimum four semesters must still pay the applicable registration fee.
Enrollment in Undergraduate Courses
Maximum during enrollment: Master's 6 credits; Doctoral 6 credits; Integrated 12 credits.
AIMS Portal → Academic Information for Graduate School → Class Info → Application for Classes → Select [Undergraduate] Course Classification and major → Select designated course(s) → Save
Only courses designated by the academic advisor after consultation may be registered.
Courses at Partner Universities (Credit Exchange)
Students may enroll in graduate-level courses at partner universities. Recognized credits may count toward major-credit requirements up to one-half of the applicable major-credit requirement.
Eligible courses: Graduate-level courses not offered by Ajou Graduate School in the relevant semester.
Procedure: Complete the Credit Exchange Recognition Application with required approvals → Submit to department office → Department sends an official request to the Graduate School Academic Affairs Team.
Partner universities listed in the source notice include Konkuk, Kyonggi, Kyung Hee, Korea University, UST, GIST, Kookmin, Korea National Defense University, Dongguk, Myongji, Seoul National University, University of Seoul, Sungkyunkwan (SAINT), Sookmyung Women's, Yonsei, University of Ulsan, Ewha Womans, Hallym, and Hanyang.
Alternative Foreign Language Qualification Courses
Applications for English or Korean courses replacing the foreign-language qualification requirement must be submitted through AIMS during the regular course-registration period. Applications are not permitted during the course-change period.
- English: Enrolled students and students who completed coursework, excluding students on leave and students admitted to Pharmacy from Sep. 2012 through Sep. 2018.
- Korean Beginning: International students who are enrolled or have completed coursework.
Notes on Application for Classes
Confirmation and Required Credits
- Advisor approval is mandatory; the department chair/dean approves where no advisor is assigned.
- Confirm department-specific major, research, and required-course requirements in advance.
- Graduate courses offered by other departments may be recognized as major credits when related to the student's field and approved by the advisor.
Restriction on Duplicate Registration
Registration for the same course is not permitted, including alternative foreign-language courses. Doctoral students must check for duplication with courses completed or recognized during the master's program. A course with the same title may not be repeated even when the instructor or content differs.
Scholarship Application
Students are eligible only when they earned at least 4 credits in the previous semester, received no F or U grade, and meet the applicable GPA requirement.
Students who completed only courses for which no semester GPA is calculated (research credits, P/F or S/U courses, or credit-exchange courses) are not eligible for a scholarship in the following semester.
Students who had completed all required major credits by the end of Spring 2026 will be evaluated for the Spring 2027 scholarship based on cumulative GPA, regardless of the number of credits earned in Fall 2026.
Retaking an F-grade Course
An F grade is removed only after the same course is retaken and a passing grade is earned.
Required Credits for Graduation
Required major and research credits vary by department. Confirm the applicable department requirements before registration.
Some departments designate Major Required courses. Consult the department curriculum and contact the department for details.
Graduate School Core Curriculum Requirement (AJOU CORE)
Beginning with students admitted in 2026, Introduction to Graduate Research is an AJOU CORE Major Required course (1 credit) and must be completed during enrollment.
Students admitted before 2026 are not required to complete the course. Students who have not met the previous non-credit requirement are strongly encouraged to take it, because successful completion satisfies that requirement.
